We construct our centres according to the highest global sustainability standards, fitting out buildings with features such as solar PV panels, LED lighting, high-efficiency fans, and electric steam generators that minimise pollution. Our buildings utilise long-lasting materials that prolong the lifespan of assets to avoid wastage.

We also recycle large quantities of materials including waste water at all centres, and even harvest rain to maintain our grounds. Each centre has a waste management system for reducing landfill waste. These investments are not just good for the planet and people, they improve efficiency and reduce operating costs in the long run.

Our centres in Malaysia hold certifications such as Green Building Index (GBI) and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), with other centres pending review.

Conservation of Resources

Each centre works on incorporating sustainability as a natural part of its day-to-day operations, as efficient operations and effective facility management helps reduce our impact on the environment.

Together with our tenants, our centres have undertaken the following initiatives to conserve water and energy:

• Introducing a monitoring system for overall centre and individual tenant water and energy use. This resulted in us using 20% less water and energy over the last three years!
• We also minimised energy use by upgrading our air conditioning units and regulating ambient temperatures.
• Harvesting rain to maintain our grounds, using water that has been recycled to service restrooms and for landscape irrigation.
• Making a conscious effort to reduce running time of equipment when not utilised.

We are also in the process of implementing Malaysia’s first solar hybrid pump to ensure water and energy efficiencies.

Inspiring Green Habits

We make it a priority to recycle materials through our Recycling & Buy Back programmes. IPC leads the way, recycling 31% of the waste generated by its operations through its Recycle & Buy Back Centre (RBBC). Toppen’s RBBC is officially the first physical centre in Johor, inspiring the communities in South Malaysia to create a better impact on the planet.

We recently upgraded IPC’s RBBC, digitising the platform for a seamless customer experience and allowing our visitors to enjoy rewards under our Tack Club loyalty programme in exchange of the recyclable materials.

We also share this vision with our tenants, so that they too can be more proactive in making our centres more sustainable. We hold weekly debriefs explaining each centre’s recycling rates, encourage regular use of our recyclable waste drop-off stations, and implement food waste recycling initiatives, where tenants donate excess food to be organically processed into fertilizers.

We are committed to continuously improving our recycling rates and encourage everyone to recycle across the region.

Good Transport Links

We make sure our shopping centres are easily accessible to all, by securing locations with excellent connections to commuter rail, metro and buses.

Our MyTOWN shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur has a direct tunnel from the underground metro system into our mall. Similarly, our IPC centre is within walking distance to a metro station, while Megabangna offers free shuttle bus services from nearby bus and metro stations.
